Bible passage:
Daniel 2:21 He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding;
1 Timothy 2: 1-4 - First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Psalm 72: 1-5 (Messianic Psalm) Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to the royal son! May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice! Let the mountains bear prosperity for the people, and the hills, in righteousness! May he defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor! May they fear you while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations!
We await in hope for the reign of Messiah during whose time there is righteousness, justice, and prosperity! Any earthly King would terribly fall short of this expectation. Of course, some rulers are more wicked than others. Of course, we could be misinformed about a ruler or wrongly assess the ruler's efficiency or motives. But, God's word makes it clear that irrespective of what we think of a ruler, we should remember:
Kingdoms of the world are also in the hands of God and He removes or sets up kings.
Praying for rulers/ those in authority is pleasing in the sight of God.
Interceding for them is in alignment with God's desire for them to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.
Such prayers also help us live a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
