Bible passage:
Psalm 139: 1-17 O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it. Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
Eph 3:17 - 19 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
We are part of the connected generation that feels alone! We are connected to each other through the internet and efficient transportation, we have expert resources for improving interpersonal relationships, and we also mostly have access to churches where we could learn to connect with God. Yet, this generation laments more about loneliness than generations that have gone before.
One of the reasons could be that many choose to wear a mask, and the connections and friendships even between family members are between one masked person with another. What if we are forced to remove the masks and stand vulnerable and exposed? We dread that because we know what we truly are behind the masks. Even David the Psalmist, the man after God's own heart in Psalm 139 poetically writes about this ALL-KNOWING God whom we can't escape. Yet, praise God that He is not just all-knowing, God is all-loving, and after seeing us for who we really are, He loves us - with a love that is too wide, long, high, and deep. We then have no need for those wretched masks anymore. We can truly connect with God and others. Make Psalm 139 your prayer before God today, as you marvel at how He knows you, and those around you. May our friends and family members who feel lonely, depressed, or disconnected be encouraged by that all-knowing love of God.
Prayer points:
Pray that those with suicidal thoughts be delivered from them, and may they seek help locally from others, and from God.
Pray that those who suffer from depression are able to seek medical intervention (where required), have the support of friends and family, and modify their lifestyle and choices to be able to come out of it.
Pray that those who feel lonely as they are single (desiring marriage), or grieving the loss of their loved one would find comfort in the Lord and His word.
Pray that those who are emotionally alone after emotional abuse, betrayal, lack of friends, or hectic life may heal and be connected with God and with those around.
